The mission of this competition is to encourage artists to develop and refine their classical art skills and spotlight their mastery by providing a new platform for showcasing contemporary-traditional works of art.

We ask artists to represent Signs of Spring via contemporary-traditional methods.  Any genre of work will be eligible for consideration.  Spring brings about the connotations of death and rebirth. The artwork submitted could feature anything from budding trees, to rainy landscapes, to blooms of California Wildflowers or a host of golden daffodils, to figures enjoying a picnic at the park or taking a bike ride, to signs of new life (human or wildlife) or anything symbolizing new beginnings and transformation.  Sculptures could explore the resurrection motif popularly associated with spring, to flora or fauna.

The guest judge for this competition will be Mary Platt, Director of the Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University.

Submission deadline is Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 11:59 pm.

The exhibition will be made live on the California Art Club’s virtual gallery from March 20, 2024 to June 20, 2024. Winners will be announced on opening day.

Artwork will be available for acquisition unless noted otherwise.
