MEDIA ADVISORY CALIFORNIA ART CLUB'S 94TH ANNUAL GOLD MEDAL JURIED
EXHIBITION
The California Art Club will unveil new artwork from the state's premier representational artists and a selection of renowned out-of-state members at the club's 94th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition. Considered to be one of the highest-quality displays of contemporary-traditional art in the country, the exhibition is un-themed, continuing a practice initiated by 19th century European art salons, in order to encourage artists to take artistic risks and create what they consider to be their most important works. In conjunction with this display, the Pasadena Museum of California Art will present approximately 15 paintings by early California Art Club artists, many of whom were instrumental in the Club's founding in 1909. This special collection of paintings, on loan from The Irvine Museum, will showcase historic images of the city that is known around the world for its famed Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game. This ancillary exhibition is part of the four-month-long "Tender Land" Festival, a citywide celebration that highlights how approaches to nature have changed through time and across cultures.
